Paint brushes and pencils are the weapons of choice for a group of passionate artists campaigning for the better treatment of animals and the environment.
The Gap painter Jeanie Petersen has joined with artists Barbara Lester, Delys Clifford and Margaret Kirman to present their exhibition, Sacred Commodities, from June 30.
“We want to make a statement about animal awareness within the local community – and not just the surrounding community but the communities where the other ladies live as well,” Petersen said.
“We want our paintings to hopefully encourage people to appreciate what they’ve got.
“I myself am an environmental painter and I paint coastal strips with watercolours to show not only their beauty but how they need to be better looked after.”
Petersen said many of her works were inspired by her walks along Shorncliffe Beach.
