The Sunshine Coast Council has assisted the development of a G-P-S enabled buoy that could act as an early flood warning system.

The research received an Australian Research Council Linkage grant in partnership with the Sunshine Coast Council.

Introduced at a successful launch on Wednesday morning, the device, dubbed Bob-Bhoy, transmits real-time data to save lives during emergency flood situations.

Doctor Helen Fairweather from the University of the Sunshine Coast says this is one step forward in faster flood warnings.

Helen Fairweather: “You want to know what’s happening with the flow both at a range of locations not just at the one location but across the whole river system and also over time.”
