Council Election AM: Angle 1:
The State Government will hold a seminar on the Sunshine Coast today for residents who want more information on how to nominate for the position of councilor or mayor ahead of next year’s local government elections.
The seminar will give prospective candidates an insight into the roles and responsibilities of local councilors.
Deputy Director-General of Local Government and Regional Services, Stephen Johnston, says electoral hopefuls should be dedicated to their community.
Stephen Johnston: “People that can operate in a team environment, also good communicators in terms of being able to listen to their communities and also then advocate on behalf of them and also, I guess, an understanding of why you’re on the council; recognizing that your specific interests and why you wanted to get elected need to be broadened once you actually are on the council.”
