Former political staffer, James Ashby, has defended federal minister Mal Brough’s involvement in the downfall of former speaker Peter Slipper’s career.
Mr Ashby was accused of leaking extracts of Mr Slipper’s diaries to the media in 2012, following encouragement from Mr Slipper’s then opponent, Mr Brough.
But Mr Ashby denied the allegations, stating he had copies of the diaries and volunteered them to Mr Brough without provocation.
James Ashby: “Mal Brough has never done anything wrong in this case bar assist somebody in need and that’s all I have to say about Mal Brough. I take my hat off to the bloke. He’s done nothing wrong by me and I can’t ever say a bad word about him.”
