White Ribbon Activism: Angle 2:

25 Queenslanders are learning how to safely intervene in domestic violence situations… to coincide with White Ribbon Day today.

The three-day ‘Mentors in Violence Prevention’ program at Central Queensland University’s Cairns campus is aimed to teaching people to become proactive bystanders.

Professor Annabel Taylor from the Queensland Centre for Domestic and Family Violence says community members need support to tackle the scourge.

Annabel Taylor: “The intention is to provide this training in Northern Queensland, where the access to training can be limited, and the hope is to involve as many service providers from remote and regional areas in Northern Queensland to be able to access this training.”

And there’ll be a number of White Ribbon Day events in the far north today, including a Twilight Walk in Mossman.
